Art Guidelines

The New Era art dept is Mac based, so we can open and convert a wide variety of file formats. If you have existing design files, please follow the guidelines below for submitting those files to us. And if you aren't sure about a particular format, ask us!

Spot Colour Printing

If you are sending art to be used for screen-printing, we prefer vector based files. These are files that have been created in programs like Adobe Illustrator and are usually saved out as an .EPS or .AI file. Please define the colours in your digital file as Pantone Spot colours (We use Pantone Solid Coated swatch books).

Make sure to convert all text to OUTLINES, as this will eliminate having to send us any font files. Simply selecting the text and choosing the "Create Outlines" selection under the "Type" menu can do this. It is very important that you do this, as we may not have your fonts on any of our computers. If you are using another graphics program, please make sure all fonts are converted to "curves" or "outlines".

Camera-Ready Art: Bitmap (.tiff, .jpg or .psd files) artwork for screen printing on garments should be saved at 300dpi. Ideally, the art will be saved precisely sized to the imprint area specifications of the item that will be imprinted. Black and white line art should be scanned at least at 600 d.p.i. Line art drawings are best if sent to us in vector format. (Adobe Illustrator .ai or Adobe .pdf formats.)

Four-Colour Process / Spot Process Printing

The four-color process uses four transparent colours - yellow, magenta, cyan and black - that emulate photographic reproduction when each colour is printed one on top of the other in different tone values. This process can only be printed directly on white fabric. To use any other fabric colours, a different process is used called Spot Process Seperation. This allows us to print photographic style images using spot colours onto dark coloured garments. For further information regarding four-color process (CMYK) printing or Spot Process Printing, please contact your New Era Grafix sales representative.

Fonts

As mentioned, please convert all fonts used to outlines/curves or send us your font files (Opentype, TrueType or Mac Postscript fonts only please).

Redraws

If you do not have vector illustrator or EPS files, we can redraw from a JPG, TIF, BMP, PSD, or PNG file (the higher the resolution, the better). An art charge will apply.

Art Dont's

Do not send us Microsoft Publisher Files. Microsoft Publisher files are not compatible with anything other than Publisher. Please save the Publisher file as a PDF file.

Large Files/FTP

If your attachments are too large to e-mail, use a compression program like WinZIP, create a ZIP archive in Mac OS X Finder (Panther 10.3 or higher), or use Stuffit to compress the file.

Files that are 5MB or more can be uploaded to our FTP site. Contact us for details.
